Tourism: After rapid expansion as a tourist destination in the 70's and 80's Sweden attracts over two and a half million visitors a year. The number of visitors continues to grow each year.
Major Attractions:-
Cities - The most popular tourist destination is the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The centre spreads across 14 interconnected islands creating an atmosphere of spaciousness. Sights not to be missed include the Vasa Museum, the Royal Palace and the wonderfully preserved old quarter the 13th century Gamla Stan. On the outskirts of the city is Drottningholm Palace, home to Sweden's royal family and this is open to the public from May to September.
Kingdom of Crystal - in Smaland, boasts 16 famous glassworks, each with its own distinct ambiance and craftsmanship. Most of the glassworks encourage you to watch their skilled glassblowers transforming molten glass into works of fine art.
Gotland - The largest island in the Baltic is worth visiting to see the medieval Hanseatic town of Visby, surrounded by its 3.6 km long, 13th-century walls.
Nightlife: Stockholm has over 700 restaurants offering cuisine from around the world in addition to the famous Swedish Smorgasbord. Outside of the cities there is little nightlife. |
